Gordon Brockhouse of Soundstage! Simplifi, recently reviewed the BDA-3.14, the newest addition to our collection of digital audio products. The BDA-3.14 combines the functionality of a Digital Analog Converter, Audio Streaming Unit, and Preamplifier. This creates a multi-functional audio unit that is capable of acting as a standalone device for streaming your favorite audio content. Gordon provides a wonderful and in-depth review of the BDA-3.14 while discussing its overall performance.
A few of my favorite quotes include:
Wow, this sounds really nice.
As soon as I began listening attentively, it was obvious that the BDA-3.14 had amazing dynamics and fluidity — the combination drew me into the music in a way I’ve rarely experienced.
It sounded glorious. The sound effects in “Speak to Me” — the pulsing heartbeat, the ringing alarm clocks, the cash registers, the maniacal laughter, the threatening machinery — appeared from all over the soundstage, well beyond the speaker plane, as if emerging from the ether.
I rhetorically asked whether a component such as Bryston’s BDA-3.14 could be more than the sum of its parts. I think the answer is yes… Price-wise, the BDA-3.14 is very much less than the sum of its parts – which is very welcome news.
Sonically though, I have no reservations about the BDA-3.14. Quite the contrary — I loved every moment I spent listening to it. The more I listened, the more the BDA-3.14 grew on me. It was still growing on me when I disconnected it from my system to pack it up and return it to Bryston.
