INTRODUCING THE SP 1

Our Goal - To design an uncluttered, easy-to-use analog/digital preamplifier incorporating stereo and surround sound capability. The Bryston SP 1 preamplifier/processor provides you with state-of-the-art performance in both analog and digital formats.

The Bryston SP 1 operates as a full-featured preamplifier if used in the "bypass" mode and is in fact identical to the circuit path in our BP-25 stereo preamplifier. The bybass mode provides a totally discrete analog signal path - including the volume control, from input to output. It does not go through any IC's or digital circuitry from input to output.

In the digital mode the SP 1 automatically detects the digital input signal, roots the signal through the DSP module and adjusts to the appropriate mode. The digital circuit provides decoding for PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Prologic, DTS and THX formats. It also incorporates 4 DSP music modes, Natural, Club, Stadium, Party.

• An "LCD" display to indicate decoding type, signal type, error messages and provide visual menus for speaker setup, trim and delay adjustments.
• 5.1 outputs with both Balanced XLR and RCA connectors with discrete output amplifiers.
• Mono and Stereo Down-mixing for all modes.

• Provides summed signal for subwoofer in bypass mode. 6 inputs - 4 with digital capability. The 4 digital inputs included 2-Toslink with the consumer model and 1 AES/EBU with the Pro model.
• Digital toggle button to easily switch between digital and analog input signals.
• RS 232 port is provided to allow for the integration of external control systems (AMX, Crestron, etc.) using simple character based protocol.
• Two 12 volt trigger outputs allow for remote triggering of your amplifier(s) or other home theater accessories such as motorized drapes and screens.
• Backlit remote control is also provided.
• Easy Upgrades

The ROM chip provides for easy upgrades so future software changes are quick and easy to implement. The digital board is also pin-to-pin compatible so upgrades to future formats or digital-processing technologies is possible.

Independent Power Supplies
Totally separate and independent toroidal power supplies for the analog and digital circuitry are utilized.

Unique Burn-In Procedure:
Each and every Bryston product undergoes a very extensive "burn-in" procedure. Following a complete operational checkout, every amplifier is placed on a test-bench and run for 100 hours at full output. This extremely rigorous burn-in quickly "matures" components and weeds out any potential premature failures. The result is reliable trouble-free performance for many years, and is backed by Bryston's exclusive 20-year full warranty.

Hand Assembled With Care:
Bryston hand assembles and individually tests each and every product we manufacture. We exclusively use only the finest components in our amplifier design, such as 1% metal-film resistors, polystyrene capacitors and hand selected and matched transistors to reduce noise and distortion to the absolute minimum. Bryston applies techniques and employs custom materials in our everyday construction of electronic equipment that are more typically utilized in military and aerospace industries. Our traditional adherence to proprietary parts and sophisticated construction and testing techniques guarantees your amplifier will perform for many years without concern.
